I have checked and it seems like a host gator issue; let me know what they said over the phone.

When I refresh your websites they work sometimes and sometimes they don't work.

I think there may be a problem with the hosts configuration file from host gator since we are getting the name resolution error.

Please call me as soon as you finish talking with host gator.

I have done some more research and here are my conclusions; you may want to point host gator to this post:

The problem isn't technically a PHP one it is a DNS one.

Please check that your name server is running and setup correctly.  Check the same with your internet server.

Might be something wrong with your resolver library.

Its a problem with your operating system setup, not PHP.

Add your site to /etc/hosts and restart apache.

When apache starts, php or apache gets DNS servers entry from /etc/resolv.conf So there's a problem with apache or php to get informed that the content of resolv.conf has been updated.

Temporary solution is just to reload apache doing a apachectl stop/start

Please let me know what they said.

Just for information I had problems with errors on all my sites this morning I called HostGator and it was fixed within 45 minutes.  They said it was a dns translation error.  They could have told me my flux capacitor was bad just as well!!!  very good customer service I reccomend Hostgator highly.
