I recently posted “How to Drive Targeted Traffic to Your Affiliate Website” and in that post I received a question on how to find forums… So I’ve decided to make this post to go more in depth on how to get traffic from online forums.
Posting in forums really works for driving traffic to a website. You can send people to your affiliate website, your e-mail list squeeze pages, your sales pages, etc.
How to find a forum related to your niche:
To get highly targeted traffic to your website it is very important that you find a forum that is related to your website’s niche; or else, it wouldn’t serve the intended purpose. For example: Posting a link from a dog training forum to a moneymaking Internet marketing website would probably not produce good results.
To find relevant forums you will need to go to Google and perform a search, and this is the search command that I use to find what I’m looking for:
+”your niche” +forum
or
+”your niche” +”discussion board”
Please make sure you replace “your niche” with the term you’re looking for.
So, for example if I was looking for an affiliate marketing forum I would type:
+”affiliate marketing” +forum
Joining forums and reading their rules of conduct:
After you have found the forums related to your niche, you will need to join and read their rules for posting before you start posting or else you could get banned.
After you have joined and read the rules, you will need to edit your profile where you can include your website URL. Also, you will need to set up your signature which will appear at the end of every one of your posts.
Start posting and getting involved:
When you start posting I would recommend that you do not post obvious ads expecting people to go visit your website. This will probably result in your posts being deleted.
Read what people are talking about and get involved in those discussions, people will get to know you and you will get to know them. Once you have a good relationship with people around the forum, you can then start a thread asking them to read your articles, comment on your website, ask them what they like, what they dislike, etc. Remember, these people are your target audience, and who better to tell you what they want than your target audience?
And that’s it, pretty easy but very powerful stuff if you use it correctly!
Thanks for stopping by, please post your questions or comments below.
Thank you and take care.
