How to Write Content Articles for Your Affiliate Websites

By EZadmin | Oct 17, 2008

How can I help you with your online business? If you’ve read through this blog you’ll find a post I made a few days ago requesting you my reader to suggest or request posts about things that you would like to know about affiliate marketing, making money online, working from home, etc.

So this post was requested by Denny, and here’s what he requested:

"I am wondering if you can post about how to write articles and what points need to consider while writing articles …so that it rank high in search engines?"

Well Denny and all my EZ Affiliate Blog visitors, here’s how I write my content and articles for this blog, the main EZ Affiliate Website Builder homepage, and all my other affiliate websites.

I am going to divide Denny’s question into three very important questions:

  1. How do I write my articles?
  2. What points do I consider for writing my articles?
  3. What do I do for my articles to rank high in the search engines?

1. How do I write my articles?

There are two different ways that I produce my content and my articles. One is by writing them myself and the other one is by outsourcing and having someone else write them for me.

99% of the articles I write, I write with speech recognition software which I’m using right now to type this message. For some reason I find it difficult to actually type what I want to say, so it’s a lot easier for me to just talk about what I want to write as if I was talking to you. Once I finish, I cleanup the article and then I post it to my website.

The other 1% of the articles I personally write are the ones that I type manually, and normally those are short articles or content.

The other way I produce my articles and my content is by outsourcing to an article writing service where I provide specific instructions of what I want, they do the research, and type the article according to my specifications.

2. What points do I consider for writing my articles?

There are three main areas that I focus on for writing my articles:

  1. How can I fix or help someone fix a problem?
  2. How can I save or help someone save time?
  3. What new news or information do I know that I can provide to someone?

How to fix a problem: this post is a good example of one of my focus areas for writing content; Denny has a problem, questions, or he needs a solution. Hopefully this post will help, provide a solution, and/or empower him and you to get articles written for your websites when needed.

How to save time: what information do I know that can help someone save time and be more productive; for example, did you know that you can save time when typing a domain name in the address bar? Normally people type http://www. the actual domain name and then .com or www. the actual domain name and then .com

You could save time by typing the actual domain name and then control plus enter (Ctrl + Enter) and the browser will fill in the rest. Of course this is a very small example but hopefully you get the idea and also, if you didn’t know this little tip you can save 2 seconds every time you type a domain name :)

Provide new information: what new news or information do I know that could benefit or impact other people? For example, I am the developer of EZ Affiliate Website Builder and I know my users will appreciate or will be benefited by knowing new developments about my software, different affiliate programs, changes in terms of service, changes in rules, etc. an example would be the affiliate news page in the EZAWB homepage.

3. What do I do to get my articles to rank high in search engines?

This is a very important element in getting your articles out there. As you probably know, there is a lot of competition amongst websites to rank high in the search engine results. So here are the steps that I take to give my articles and my content a better fighting chance:

First I determine the primary keyword that I want to target; and instead of fighting against everybody out there wanting to rank for that keyword, I am going to refine it to start getting traffic faster and then when it comes time to rank for the main keyword it will be a lot easier.

I will provide an example of the process I follow; in the example, I will be using the main search term "affiliate website" of course, you will use a different search term for your particular niche.

Here’s a little tip:
I chose to use this main keyword in this example because I want to continue to rank and improve my ranking for this search term. So this post is going to benefit you; but at the same time it will benefit me and my website
;)

So here are the steps I follow:

  • I do a Google search for my main search term, in this case affiliate website
  • Then I look at the search engine results, in this case there were 2,190,000
  • Then I go to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to find long tail keywords based on the main search term to rank better with the search engines:
    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
  • I type my main keyword and click on get keyword ideas
  • I click on sort by Approx Avg Search Volume and sometimes I Select Exact Match Type to get more accurate results

Once everything is sorted, I look for key words that have a number less than 500 and from those I pick the ones that better match what I’m targeting, what I want to write about, and/or the ones that I think will give me better results.

So here are the results of the long tail keywords that I chose for the main search term affiliate website:

affiliate website business
affiliate website opportunity
affiliate website software
best affiliate website
build affiliate website
free affiliate website builder –> this one I created from two separate longtail keywords (free affiliate website and affiliate website builder)
how to set up an affiliate website
make an affiliate website
set up an affiliate website
what is an affiliate website

Once I have determined the long tail keywords that I will be using, I will write my articles around those long tail keyword phrases making sure that I repeat them throughout my article to give more density to that particular search term.

Of course, please use common sense and don’t write an article that talks about keyword because keyword is very important in the keyword industry that helps you succeed in the keyword business.

Always write your articles as if you were talking to someone else; your content needs to make sense… after all, you are really writing articles for your visitors and not for the search engines. Right..?

I hope I have answered your questions; and I hope it helps you come up with great quality and unique articles and content for your affiliate websites.

Now it’s up to you to make it happen…

Take care!

Jorge

P. S. Remember… Everything I talk about here is NOTHING more than words… UNLESS you take ACTION!

Great info! I would also like to share some of what I teach my clients about article writing:

    1. Keep them between 500-800 words.

    2. Make sure the message is edgy, controversial and media present so you are tapping into the buzz that is already ongoing.

    3. Remember WHO your audience is - - your intention is to get to their CORE!

    4. Use the following marketing syntax:
Clearly identify your target market in the first couple of sentences.
Clearly identify the “problem” - - this gets your reader’s attention AND prefaces you as the expert!
Speak to their frustrations, fears and pain – let them know you KNOW them so they will not only listen to you – they will HEAR what you have to say.

    5. Provide a solution in story form (i.e., I have a client who was experiencing, this is what we did to fix that and this is what happened as a result of doing that).

    6. Give them the proverbial “call to action.” What do you want them to do? Keep it short and sweet by giving your contact information, that nuts and bolts of what you DO FOR PEOPLE and the link where you want them to go to learn how to get whatever your free offering is.

    7. Remember that your title has to be emotionally compelling! and make sure that “limited script” leaves the emotional message that you get them, you understand them and their problems and you are THE one to help them.

    8. Initially, select one topic and drive it deep. This means to take one subject and write a lot of follow up articles about it – which should be easy to do since you can’t get the whole banana in 500-800 words!

Thank you for allowing me to participate in your success!

    Thanks nice post

Just to say that the structure of the articles is crucial if you are going to get results i.e a click through or sign up from your articles

Search engine optimization is also an important aspect when writing articles.

I try not to take more than 20 minutes writing my articles. But for every article, of course the idea for the article will have been bouncing around in my brain for a few days

Excellent information…thank you, Jorge. I’m one of those people who write the outsourced articles for people such as those in your business, and I have just started studying affiliate marketing and all that goes along with it. I want to branch into that. Seriously, with all there is to learn it could be one or more college courses! I bookmark, download, and copy/paste the most helpful information into a special file, and this post definitely has a place in there now. Keep up the good work!
