Why is affiliate marketing a good idea in a recession you may ask?
In my opinion there are two ways you can look at a recession; you can view it as a bad thing, or you can view it as an opportunity.
In these tough economic times you’re going to see many people starting their own home-based affiliate marketing businesses which creates a great opportunity for you to help them get started with their own online business and profit from it.
Also, a lot of people still buy online and they will continue to do so which creates another great opportunity for you to offer the products that they’re looking for in your affiliate websites. The trend for people buying stuff online is constantly growing and WILL continue to grow, so you’re offered with a continuous opportunity to market new products to the growing number of online consumers.
Another great opportunity that you can get from a recession is that a lot of people will cap their marketing budget, therefore giving you the opportunity to get cheaper advertising to reach out to new customers with little or no competition because your competitors will be doing the opposite in an attempt to save money. You see, during good economic times there’s much higher competition for reaching out to customers since everybody has more money to spend in advertising, therefore making it harder and more expensive for you to find new prospects.
There are so many easy and cost effective ways to advertise and help your affiliate marketing business succeed, and many people don’t know them. There are also many free ways of advertising online like writing articles, posting in forums, blogs, social networking websites, etc.
Another very cost effective way of advertising is creating flyers, posting ads in free publications, postcards, business cards, car magnets, etc. Just make sure you have a good and attractive offer that will motivate people to visit your affiliate business website.
Another great way to get your business name out there is to do joint ventures with other website owners where you will both cross-promote each other and both benefit from the extra traffic. Remember, most likely they are also going through tough economic times and they would be crazy to say no to a joint venture proposition.
News releases can also be very effective to promote your affiliate marketing business and to capture new prospects, new leads, new visitors, and new buyers.

You can approach or re-act to this “recession” with fear, wait around to see what happens, wonder if you will survive, and live in the realm of scarcity and suffer…
OR…
You can be proactive and ready; take responsibility, charge, and control of your future by taking action, being a visionary, promoting sales and value, constantly looking for new marketing opportunities, and if you DO that, you will live in the realm of abundance and you will prosper.
There are enough opportunities and there is more than enough money out there…
It is up to YOU to go get it!

“Caution” is the operative word right now. However, having said that, the smart netpreneuteur is watching for those ‘unprecendented’ opportunties that may have been a bit too pricey before now. Watch closely and you will see two interesting things occur:
1) Many folks will leave the competitive arena giving those who stay opportunites to expand and…
2) Prices will drop on marketing scripts, software products and advertising.

Affiliate marketing can be a very cost-effective way to provide goods or services that people need, regardless of the economic climate.
Great post! I love these kinds of posts! Recession can be a great time to make a fortune with any kind of business, especially it has something do with how people can save money or make more money and online utilising those both aspects on your own site or sites can be easily done. One sign of a recession was this sudden rise of e-shopping clubs, offering rebates and freebies etc.
